The children Casa Hogar Niños del Camino once cared for are now young adults building lives and pursuing their dreams. Here, they share their journeys and what having a safe, loving home meant to them.
“Casa Hogar gave me a childhood, a family, and the opportunity to go to school and feel deeply loved as a daughter.”
Victoria arrived at Casa Hogar Niños del Camino in 2018 at eight years old. Surrounded by devoted caretakers and educational mentorship, she discovered stability and joy. Today, she is completing high school with ambitions for university.
Throughout elementary and middle school, Victoria received dedicated tutoring and encouragement from Aunt Chimi and the Casa Hogar family. Their consistent love helped her envision an independent, bright future.
She is working toward entering college after graduation, carrying forward the values, faith, and compassionate foundation nurtured during her years at the home.
“To me, Casa Hogar represents a home of unconditional friends and family. It has been a constant support for my life and my studies.”
Óscar arrived at Casa Hogar Niños del Camino in 2019 at eleven years old. The warmth and community of the home helped him adjust, discover his purpose, and complete his high school education. Today, he is in his final year of high school with sights set firmly on college—fueled by a lifelong dream to become a commercial pilot and travel the world.
One of the things Óscar is most grateful for is the support he received with his education. Casa Hogar gave him the opportunity to continue his studies from elementary school through high school, with the goal of eventually attending college and aviation flight training.
His greatest ambition is to take to the skies as a commercial airline pilot, seeing the world and inspiring other children from his community to pursue their highest aspirations. He credits the guidance, character building, and unconditional love at Casa Hogar with providing the foundation that made dreaming this big possible.
“It has meant everything, because this is practically my family. They have given me all the love possible and the tools to achieve my goals.”
Leslie arrived at Casa Hogar Niños del Camino in 2014 at eight years old. In the middle of the unknown, having her brother with her helped her adjust. Casa Hogar became much more than where she lived—providing love, education, and strong values.
Today, Leslie is in her junior year pursuing a degree in Foreign Language Teaching at Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), with dreams of becoming a flight attendant.
She credits Casa Hogar with providing the foundation, discipline, and unconditional love that enabled her to excel academically and reach higher education.
“It is a change of life. I would rather be here than anywhere else.”
Luis Ángel arrived at Casa Hogar Niños del Camino in 2016 when he was five years old. He doesn’t remember much from those first days, but he remembers that school and church were important parts of helping him adjust to his new home.
After all these years, Luis Ángel says he is most grateful for being at Casa Hogar and for the patience everyone has shown him. One of the greatest opportunities he has received is an education. He also says he has learned the importance of studying and being responsible.
When asked how Casa Hogar has helped him grow and change, his answer is simple: 'In everything.' Some of his favorite memories are the Christmas celebrations. Today, Luis Ángel continues to live at the orphanage and is in his first year of high school. Casa Hogar has changed his life and continues to support him in his education as he works toward graduating.
“It gave me peace and tranquility in my heart. Casa Hogar continues to shape us and help us with the things we have struggled with. I am very grateful because they have helped us so much, and I feel different now in my life.”
Sonia was one of the first children welcomed to Casa Hogar Niños del Camino when it opened its doors in 2006. She arrived at just four years old after experiencing significant hardship and abuse in her biological home. Child services eventually removed Sonia and her siblings from that environment and placed them in the care of Casa Hogar.
Because of what she had experienced at such a young age, Sonia was a very quiet and shy child who often hid within herself. She remembers that, over time, the people at Casa Hogar patiently helped her learn to communicate, build relationships, and trust those around her.
Sonia is especially grateful for the people who have taught and guided her throughout the years. She says their patience and support played an important role in shaping her character and helping her mature. Today, Sonia continues to live at the orphanage, where she feels confident, peaceful, and happy to be part of a loving home, currently working while helping with responsibilities around the home. Looking toward the future, she hopes to have a family, live in a way that honors God, and one day travel to another state as a missionary.
“Casa Hogar gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams. Looking back, I am deeply grateful for the peace, the opportunities, and the wonderful people God placed in my life along the way.”
Griselda arrived at Casa Hogar Niños del Camino in 2011 when she was fifteen years old. Coming from a difficult home environment where her mother struggled with substance abuse, she initially felt overwhelmed, yet quickly discovered a deep, reassuring sense of peace and safety.
During her time at Casa Hogar, she connected closely with the Tavares family, who welcomed her and treated her with unconditional love as one of their own daughters. Casa Hogar empowered Griselda to graduate high school, build her faith, and eventually meet her husband through church.
In 2025, they welcomed their first son. Today, Griselda focuses on guiding her growing family, raising her son with faith, and working toward purchasing their first home.
